I'm not sure on how to use my mobile phone in France (last time I went abroad they hadn't been invented!) but I would need it for the geocaching...

Also, do bank cards work in France? Happy to take cash too but was wondering. Just got an ordinary Nationwide a/c.
I'm like you with mobiler phones in fact don't have one.
My wife's works but not for texting for some reason.

Bank Cards, C/C, are generally fine for restaurants etc etc., but if you withdraw cash then there is a charge unless you use a Halifax Clarity card. You might want to inform your card provider that you are going abroard to ensure that they allow use: they might think it has been stolen otherwise.
I think Nationwide allow cash withdrawls with no charge.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

Your mobile will work fine, but beware huge data roaming charges if you are on contract-best to switch data roaming off and use free wi-fi, there must be plenty of that in central Paris.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
