I second Stockley Farm for Cheshire deliveries. I have a medium box off them every Weds for £13.00, have been ordering for about 3 months now and have always been impressed with the quality and quantity of veg we get.
In a typical weeks box we get:
Bag potatoes
Bag Carrots (usually about 6 good sized carrots)
Mushrooms
Onions
2 other kinds of veg - so far we have had brocolli, cauliflower, courgettes, lettuce etc.
Bunch bananas (5 minimum)
5 apples
4 oranges
The cauliflowers we have had from them are huge, much bigger than I have seen in the supermarkets so it has definately worked out cheaper for us in the long run, also the veg keeps longer than supermarket veg so we have found if we don't use something up from the week before, it is still good the week after
If you want to check out their details, their website is www.stockleyfarmorganics.co.uk

I've been wanting to use a box scheme for a little while now but been waiting for after moving house and holiday and stuff.
I can't decide between Riverford, who deliver in my area (Cardiff) and seem to be well recommended by a lot of people, BUT aren't really local, vs a local one http://www.greencuisineorganics.net who I found myself on the internet but noone recommended them to me, and I'm not sure on how they work, whether they import organic food or anything.0 -
do they have a website?? Can you email them? Ask them, and see what answers you get. If you think you'd like to try them you can get 1 box and then decide if you want to continue.0

I use Abel and Cole as I like being able to put dislikes. My mum gets box everyother week so you don't need to have a box each week. The box is always there when I get home from work and the stuff is lovely. The children love unpacking the box.Grocery challenge July £250

Out of Northern Harvest, Abel and Cole and Stockley Farm, none of them deliver to our area
Its not like we live anywhere odd, just the edge of a city. Have just discovered a farm shop not far from us though so will give that a go http://www.yew-tree-farm.org/0 -
I didn't realise River Nene let you order different size boxes. I thought you had the same size delivered weekly or forthnightly - I obviously did not read their website as well as I thought!!!
I am definitely going to order from them now as I seem to only hear good things about them whereas the views on Abel & Cole seem to be very mixedThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I'd love to buy from a box xcheme, but the only one offered in our area (northwest) is Abel & Cole and I think they seem over priced!
Unless anyone knows of a decent box scheme in Cheshire, then I guess I'm stuck with Mr T's!Jane

Yup, catkins, they do; we get whatever we want when ever we want them. You can set up online to get things every week, fortnightly, every 3 weeks or 4 weeks. And different each time, you really only notice when you go to set up your regular order and it gives you the options (complete with the next 4 delivery's dates!)
What you dont' get to pick is what is in the box you get ; but you can pick which box. They are all slightly different and you can order extras as well.0 -
One of the reasons I use riverford is that they are farm based. If you read their history thay had a torrid time when they started out by battling with a supermarket giant. They took a chance and went off on their own. They have obviously expanded greatly but don`t appear to have lost touch with their principles. I admire them for that but that is only one reason I buy from them. The main reason is that it is truly organic and British based
I used to buy from goodness direct but they have gone off on a tangent so I rarely use them for my organics now0 -
I use Simply Wild who operate in the Kent/SE London area and are excellent. I tried Abel and Cole but found the quality variable - looked great on day of delivery but faded fast0
