Scottish Power exit fees

I am currently on Fixed March 2015 for gas and electricity. The exit fee is £25 per fuel if I move to another supplier. Now if I move to another Scottish power tariff I believe I will not be charged the exit fee. I was looking at changing to November 2015 where there are no exit fees. If I changed to this tariff, then switched supplier before March 2015 would this avoid any exit fees, or would the March 2015 penalty still remain?

Thanks

When you move to a new tariff, the terms and conditions of the new tariff replace the terms and conditions of the old tariff, so if you move to a Scottish Power tariff without exit fees and then decide to switch to another provider, you should not have to pay any exit fees.
  • Thank you, have now changed :)
Looking on uswitch, November 2015 is the cheapest tariff for me anyway. It's just nice to know I can change penalty free if prices did come down at some point in the next 14 months.

You might find you still have to pay the exit fees even moving to another tariff at SP. I think you need to check that out first before you move otherwise you will be £50 down!

In Scottish Power's case, you can move to another of their tariffs penalty free. They call it 'WithFreedom'.

Yes - my account is with SP and I logged in and noticed this. I did speak to SP last week and the rep told me I would have to pay the exit fee even if moving to another tariff with SP. So confusion there.

I'm not clear if there is some small print that states we would still be liable for exit fees if moving to another supplier prior to the end of the original tariff, in my case March 2015.

As it stands it seems we can transfer to a exit free tariff and then move to another supplier from that tariff if we so wish, without fees! So either it is a c**K up or there is small print somewhere.
