Well it's been different computers from you so mightn't be much use, but is there maybe some funky 3 pointed screw? Maybe there's no screw?What screwdriver did you use to remove the battery?
It should be switching on no matter what state the battery's in, if it's plugged in.
Or has simply rubbed off through use.If it has been removed, that indicates the MacBook is almost certainly stolen.
Try this (and there are a few others) - plugged in, hold down the trackpad button, and press the power button, keep the trackpad button held in for up to, say, 20 secs. Anything?0
