Fuel low light staying on

  • Ever since my last car died unexpectedly I stopped brimming the tank, I didn't always fill the tank but often I did. Luckily at the time I was actually on my way to fill up when car died.

I really don't feel like putting £80 fuel in for car to conk out next day. It is 13 years old after all. I pass 2 petrol stations on way to work so it's not like I'm making a detour to refuel.

You've got more patience than me then. I couldn't be bothered with stopping once a day to put fuel in.

If my car dies with a full tank, I'll pump it out (and indeed have done that many times).

My newest car - the one that gets most use - is 24yo, and cost me £100 five years ago. I don't expect it to "conk out", not least because it gets maintained properly.

My last car was just as old as my current car, didn't expect it to conk out and needing £700 of repairs either as it was maintained and had lots spent on it over the years. My current car cost £400 6 months ago and is still an unknown quantity. :)
  • I put in another £20 worth of unleaded in last night and the fuel low warning light went off. Something must have been stuck and dislodged again when I sloshed some more fuel in. All is now good once again. :)
