hi
im in a situation where I am having to drop hours at work from 24 hours down to 18hours a week and have a few questuons with regards to tax credits and housing benefit.
Firstly my partner cannot work he receives dla,war pension etc when I complete a benefit calculator is states we would still be eligible for working tax credit element because I work over 16hours and he is incapacitated? is this correct because I thought couples had to work 24 hours between them?
next question when completing housing benefit calculator for my income for last year do I use my p60 amount minus 39 weeks mat pay like you do for tax credits as the system doesnt deduct mat pay?
last question when submitting my paperwork for housing benefit claim I have to provide 2 months bank statements? can I black out the day2day spending and just leave amounts being paid in,direct debits etc?
thanks in advance

thanks blondebubbles so when I inform tax credits of my
hours dropping will I just explain to them my partner is incapapcitated and they will understand we will get working
tax element?0 -
Housing benefit is based on your income now and not previous years. They will also need tax credits information so you may be able to kick off a claim now and then update them when you receive your revised tax credits award0

I already have my tax credit paperwork for them.have spoke to housing benefit this morning they said just to put note on claim that my wage/hours will be reducing and to send in new payslips once I receive them, thanks0

No. The money going in and out of your bank statement over two months are used to verify your income and also to verify your outgoings (i.e. paying rent). A blacked out bank statement would raise questions. What exactly are you trying to hide? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -

Housing Benefit is calculated using current income not past income. You need to notify the Housing Benefit Department of any changes in household or financial circumstances as and when they happen and provide proof when available. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
blondebubbles I phoned the tax credits and they told me that we wouldn't be eligible for the working element of tax
credits as its needs to be the person that receives dla that works over 16hours a week?im confused???
im not trying to hide anything for housing benefit I was simply going to black out my day to day spending and leave my rent payments, gas, electric and any money paid in0 -
yes and he said that the person who works 16hours must be in receipt of dla aswell?0

Your partner may qualify for the severe disability element
The severe disability element
If you or your partner (if you are claiming as a couple) get
Disability Living Allowance (highest rate care component),
enhanced daily living component of Personal Independence Payment,
Armed Forces Independence Payment or Attendance Allowance (higher rate),
you can get the severe disability element.
You do not have to be working to qualify for the severe disability element
as long as your partner does. If you both qualify, you will get 2 severe
disability elements.0 -
Phoned again and your right blonde bubbles thanks for all your help! we are still eligible for working tax element0
