S/P exit fees

I'm thinking about switching from scottish power to edf.
S/P say on my bill... 'Exit fee (If you switch supplier more than 49 days before the tariff end date) N/A'
My deal ends at the end of October....does this mean I will be charged an exit fee, as it's now less than 49 days till my fixed price energy deal finishes?
If this is the case it may not be worth doing the switch.:(

Yes, you will not be charged an exit fee - or shouldn't. You should check, however, once things are through, that a 'computer' has not 'accidentally' applied one.

(And if you haven't already compare your current meter readings with the readings used on your bill to ensure that you know what your actual account status is.)

If you apply now, you may not anyway be on supply with the new supplier before 31/10. Typical switch time is 4-5 weeks.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

A new industry rule has been introduced that if you are on a fixed term contract and switch between 42-49 days before your tariff ends then no exit penalty will be applied. See the Citizens Advice adviceguide website here.

I think that is why Scottish Power make a distinction between more or less than 49 days.

But of course it means that you are free to switch within 49 days (because of this new rule) and would have been free to switch for free more than 49 days before the end (because of the tariff conditions).

In summary you are free to switch without penalty.
