Can this be done?

We are looking to do some renovation work in our house and one of the projects is to replace the bathroom wall tiles. We would like to keep the units as they look nice and matching the ensuite in the masterbedroom. My question is : is it possible to remove old wall tiles and put new ones without damaging the bathroom units?...thanks for the advice

  • Best bet may be to just tile over the old ones.

Yeah you just have to be careful done but I have it before just carefully remove the tiles.. Not a fan of over tiling, don't like the extra weight on walls and always find that the tiles fall off at some point.

Over tiling is far from idea.

You need to take care when removing old tiles. Put old blankets etc over the sanitary ware to protect from falling tiles.

Also remember you may need to replaster when the tiles are removed.

  • Am I missing something? Can the units not be removed from the walls and replaced when the re-tiling is done??

maybe i am missing the same point but, are your wall units not screwed to the wall? The units I have have hooks screwed into the wall and fixings on the unit and you just lift the unit into/off the hooks in the wall. Not onto tiles admittedly, but are they not fixed in a similar way,?

I would remove the units and replace them after. There shouldn't be a problem unless they fitted them incorrectly. Even then, it would probably still be retrievable.
