We run several 'small businesses'
We both 'work from home' and also rent out a house long term and another with holiday lets.
We currently use a cash book system, but wondered if there was some sort of profit & loss accounting program that would make life a little easier for us.

Have a shuftie at the link below. Don't know if they'll be any good but worth a look.

Remember any expenditure on software can be claimed against tax, good book keeping can save to a fortune so its one area I wouldn't skimp on.
That said http://www.gnucash.org/ is pretty good.0 -
I used GSP Money Matters for some years and loved it. I tried a much more famous program but it was far too comprehensive for my needs in that it wanted details of Alimoney and tax etc. Money Matters hit the right spot in that it allowed me to set up categories, did a spreadsheet and was simple to operate.
I suppose there are copies still around. Good luck if you can get your hands on one.
Here is another thread about it which might be helpful. I see that Amazon has some copies for sale.
