  • Hi, I am a Landlord and can assure you that the "insurance" issue is not a myth. When I took out my LL insurance I had to state whether I would be allowing HB tenants, if I did it put up the premium. As it is, my mortgage provider would not allow HB so I also went for the cheaper no HB insurance too. Sorry but its just not a fair system for anyone.

    What about saying the original letting agreement has been lost / accidentally destroyed?
    The point is that some tenants cost more in terms of insurance such as those on benefits, Asylum seekers and others (I forget what was on my recent insurance form). So if you have to change your insurance and pay an additional premium it is more hassle than it is worth especially if there are lots of working people viewing your property as well.


    I have heard of landlords working with councils so perhaps if most of their tenants are on benefits it works out well for them.
    For most accidentally landlords such us relationship breakdown or someone has died and left a property ordinary insurance is all they look at.

    Thanks for your input re Insurances above, I understand perfectly, I can understand the LL's being reluctant to have HB tenants if it has this affect on their insurance,mortgage etc.

    I think we will go for the writing of a statement to show the Hb people and see where that gets us. I think at some point I'll try and encourage my daughter to tell her Landlord the situation and again see what happens. Thanks for everyone's input.
