  • We went to Blackpool last Oct half term. Loads to do in the evening. We stayed in Fleetwood (Haven holiday camp). Took the tram down to Blackpool to see the 'illuminations', pleasure beach and the peirs in the evening. We ate in the Wetherspoons directly under Blackpool tower http://m.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/the-albert-and-the-lion, and watched the sun go down.

  • I'll be brutally honest (I used to live there so can be!) but Blackpool is a bit of a dump! It's a downmarket seaside resort but, that said, folk still love it. It's heaving during the holidays. Kids love it as there is loads for them to do; plenty of arcades, sea and sand, cheap shops lining the prom and the rides.

If the weather is poor, then the sea is pretty dramatic and the sand blows everywhere to the extent that the prom can be inaccessible.

After dark though, it def has a seedy side once all the drunken stag and hen parties get going after their day benders.

Scarborough is ok, I used to surf there but it does get noticeably colder and it's a bit of a quieter town.

For kids, I'd def say Blackpool. If you adults fancy a day away from the arcades then Lytham or St Anne's, just down the road, is nice.

Also nearby is Morecambe (which is a dive) but the seafront is lovely and the Art Deco hotel there (The Midland) offers amazing views over a cup of coffee particularly at sunset.
