Speeding ticket - unusual issue!

Hi all,
I have a bit of an odd problem, just wondering if anyone will know the consequences! It's my first ever offence so I dont know how it works.
I got a speeding ticket issued at the end of August. I don't dispute m speeding (I was doing 60mph in. 50mph zone) I returned the NIP in good time - well within the 28days asked for - to the police ticking the drivers awareness course option (I believe I am eligible)
However, i didn't fill in my date of birth on the form (must have been a late night) and the form was returned to me from the police - but it was delivered to my neighbours flat, not mine. My neighbour got back from a holiday yesterday and only gave me the returned letter then. However, the letter clearly states it needs to be re-returned within 7 days. The letter was dated 12th Sept and will arrive with the police tomorrow - this is well outside of the 7 days they asked for!
What will happen now? Do I risk the £1000 fine and 6 points?
I have a horrible sinking feeling and can't afford the £1000 fine and don't want the 6 points, but can't prove it was delivered to my neighbour if it does come through
Any advice? I feel so foolish for speeding in the first place! I've definitely learnt my lesson
Thanks all,
Hannah

your neighbour should be able to give you a statement to that effect i presume, and because its true would have no issue with swearing to a police officer. I wouldn't worry, just tell the truth.
Also I think you generally get a better response face-to-face so see if you can get to your local nick and talk to someone there?Left is never right but I always am.0 -
If your neighbour will stand up in court and give evidence to corroborate the misdelivery of the NIP then you SHOULD be ok.
Head to pepipoo forums if it turns into a summons as the "Experts" in Speeding cases are over there. We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Hi guys, thanks for the advice. Have been over to pepipoo and as I'm actually still within the 28 days since the issue of the NIP, I should be ok. I'm going to ring them tomorrow and explain the situation to see what they say. But as I'm still within the original 28 days, I should get a 3 points/£100 fine at worst.
Hopefully so anyway!
Thanks again,

Whoa. Do not ring them and if you do always confirm the conversation in writing. The person at the end of the telephone is not necessarily the decision-maker. The offer of the speed-awareness course does not form part of the court process and at worst you risk the conditional offer of fixed penalty and 3 pointsMy very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0
