I have a HSBC account. I want to know what is the service charge for
a cheque to be paid into my account. The cheque I will receive is drawn
in UK itself.

Yep, I know of no bank that charges you to have a cheque paid into your account.
Some accounts/banks do charge if the aforementioned cheque does not clear i.e. bounces.
But thats another matter.....!0 -
It depends on how fast you want the cheque cleared. You will need to pay if you want to do a 'special presentation' where the bank tries to clear it faster for you. The charge varies from bank to bank.

Think we need a little more detail from the OP to understand what specific charge he/she is referring to.

You cannot clear a cheque faster even going down the special presentation route.
All that service does is establish whether the cheque will be paid or not. You still have to wait for the cheque to go through the clearing cycle.
If you want same day cash you have to request the money by CHAPS. Expect a fee of around £25 to be made if you want this.0 -
Halifax allows the person to have the funds as soon as they have been informed whether the cheque will be paid.
Other banks seem to do things differently0
