Credit Card mismatch on balance transfer

Options
Hi All

I recently signed up for a 0% 17 month balance transfer card with Santander to transfer a c. £1800 balance across from my Natwest card and pay back within the 17 months.

When ringing up to complete the transfer I was told there was a "card mismatch" and they couldn't do the transfer. They advised me to call Noddle (the credit agency they use) to see my report as the info they would be getting was from them. All looked OK except it wasn't showing my Natwest Credit Card - Noddle said credit cards were only really shown on the report where there had been late payments or arrears on the account. NatWest have said they make all information available for Credit reference agencies

I completed a transfer a few years ago from Natwest to Barclaycard so am a bit surprised by this. Noddle are saying to speak to Santander and Santander vice versa!

Any ideas on what this could be before I cancel and look at getting something else?

Thanks!

James

Can't see why this would be something the banks would refer to noddle, or any of the credit reference agencies.
Nothing that noddle can do to resolve this at all.

Do you have online banking with santander? have you tried doing the transfer to natwest via santander online banking, rather than by phone? that may be worth a go.

If not then I would go back to santander and ask them to provide a decent explanation as to what they mean by a card mismatch.

    Hi spenski

Could it be that Santander were looking for your NatWest card on your credit report, to check...

    - that you really do have a NatWest card

    - that there is at least £1800 balance outstanding on the card?

Perhaps this is a new policy at Santander to stop you doing a BT to friend's/family's cards (or to transfer more than the outstanding balance).

That's not correct. NatWest would normally report your account status whether it is good or bad.

So I guess the main question is why NatWest aren't reporting the particular NatWest CC that you have.

Lenders can see the balance (last reported), but they can't see what card it is.

Not only can a lender not see what lenders cards a person holds from a search of your credit file, they also would know it is quite possible that your existing card provider reports to a different CRA, or even no CRA at all if it was an old card.
