Delayed baggage Gatwick airport

My daughter and 3 friends traveled from Gatwick North terminal to Marakesh on Saturday 20/9/14 with Easyjet sharing 2 cases which they checked in.
No hold baggage was loaded onto the aircraft due to problems with the baggage system at Gatwick.
On arrival at Marakesh they were informed of the situation and had a 3 1/2 hour queue to register their details to get their baggage back.
They struggled to get any information yesterday after spending a lot of time ringing round, and eventuallythey found out the cases had arrived but they had to go back to the airport today to collect their luggage.
While we are very relieved that they have got their stuff for the remaining 5 days left of their stay, was it right that they had to go collect it from the airport themselves at their own transport costs?
We know they can claim up to £25 for essentials that they had to buy like essential toiletries, change of underwear etc that they kept receipts for. Will they be able to claim for transport cost to and from the airport from Easyjet?
They do have travel insurance but it doesn't seem right that they should have to try and claim it back from that even if that was allowed.
Anyone been in a similar situation and give us any advice please?
When we had delayed baggage once on the way back from the USA to Manchester the airline delivered it to our home 40 miles from the airport free of charge at a time to suit us. That seemed fair, the above scenario doesn't seem right to me.

What is unfair is accusing Heathrow when the problem was at Gatwick.
I am slightly surprised that Easyjet didn't arrange delivery of their baggage, but as they didn't I'd definitely keep all evidence of expenses and present the bill on return.0 -

Oops:o changed title now to correct airport! Thanks agrinnall for pointing my mistake.
They have been in touch with Easyjet who have said they wont reimburse the taxi cost. Never mind, wont spoil their holiday over it, we will try getting the money back when they get home.0
