I thought i was doing my bit to keep shops open.. The other electrical stores on the same retail park have now gone...
Having looked on their website it seems £159.00 is for the camera package with a case and memory card which i did not get..
So it looks like i was charged the incorrect amount.
Thanks for the tips..
Currys do have a price match policy, but I'm not sure of their terms and conditions: I think with most such guarantees you have to find it cheaper and inform the shop within 7 days of purchase to get a refund of the difference.
I'm not sure if returning the camera and buying a new one would work either, since cameras are often excluded from standard returns policies, though you may be able to return it if it has some sort of tamper-proof packing so that it can be seen to be unopened.
You could check if there's any relevant small print on your receipt, and if not, my best advice would be to check instore notices.0 -

Again I am disturbed at some very dodgy advice being offered on this site. A contract was formed when the customer received the goods and paid their money ... how many times on this vent board do we hear people complaining when the company does not live up to their end of the contract .. lying and deception is never good advice.
Check out the shops returns policy

I dont want to goto the hassle of trying to return it.
I would like verify the price of the item when i bought it.
Not to see it advertised cheaper than the amount they charged me.
Returning it unopened it totally impossible as the sales
assistant opened the box at the time of purchase..0 -

The price of the item when you bought it was the price that you offered to pay, under no duress on the part of the seller, at the till.Gone ... or have I?0 -

So, are you still doing your bit by trying to get £30 back from them?!!Gone ... or have I?0 -
This is just something that has to happen. No doubt a new, more advanced camera has come out, so they have had to reduce the old ones or nobody would buy them, they would buy the new, cutting edge model for the same price. I bought this laptop for £500 last year, now it's only worth about £300, and I couldn't care less. It's a very simple concept. . . you could have had it cheaper but for some reason didn't want to, and now you're complaining?
How to save money at Currys:
1) Decide which model gives you the most for it's approximate price
2) Shop around on the high street, and online for the best price
3) Take proof of the cheaper price to Currys and ask them to match it
In certain circumstances they'll even give you 10% of the difference back too.
Last month my girlfriend needed a new laptop, so I found a really good one at PC World marked at £599 for one weekend only, sadly when we got there it was sold out, and by the time any stores within 100 miles were expecting stock the price was going to rise again. So we tried Currys where it was £720, I told the assistant about the PC World price and she instantly matched it, and we walked out minutes later past the laptop on display marked at £720, having paid only £599.
Oh, and I just looked on their website and it's at £649. Better send them a cheque.0 -
My mum took dvds back to HMV after they put them on a big sale and asked if she could have the difference since she had bought them a day or so before the sale. She produced a receipt for proof.
HMV said no problem and refunded my mum the few pounds difference between her full price and the sale price.
I'd try the same thing with Curry but I'd strongly advise against buying a second camera to return. They all have serial numbers for starters. Secondly, if you'reso worried about £30 can you really afford to have 2 identical products if they refuse to accept a return once they've realised you've returned a different camera?
Basically, you made a decision to buy a hi tech gadget which, in line with just about every other hi tch gadget depreciates like you wouldn't believe as newer/faster/smaller ones come out.
If you don't fancy going back and seeing if the shop will do you a favour (because they're quite within their rights to say forget it) then it's something you'll need to live with I'm afraid.
