Returning unaccepted monies to banks

A mate of mine has been claiming charges back from his bank. He received a letter from the bank stating that they would pay him £208 within ten days. As they owe him over £900 he does not want to accept their offer. Three days later he realised that the bank had paid the £208 into his account. Has anyone got any ideas what to do next, with regards to giving this money back and taking the bank to court for the £900. Thanks.

He should put it in writing that he rejects their offer entirely and request it be removed from the account. He can then state he will be filing court action to reclaim the full amount & costs and claiming interest.

Alternatively he can write accepting the £208 as partial settlement without prejudice and advise he is filing court action to reclaim the remainder & costs and claiming interest.

He can always use the partial settlement money to finance the court claim :)
  • Thanks Twinkly. My mate will take one of these actions immediately. Cheers.
