Advice with neighbour dispute please

Hello,
This is horribly stressing me out, so any advice would be gratefully received. We bought the house on the end of an unadopted road 3 years ago. Our neighbours further down have always parked in the middle of the road, saying I can ask them to move (they do this most days throughout the day). Recently I asked them to stop doing it (AGAIN) and they were very aggressive, telling me they owned that bit of road in front of their house and that they wouldn't stop. I have checked the deeds and although we own the land across the road, they own land up to the road, and we have legal vehicular right of way.
Do you think I should send them a letter outlining this, or go to a solicitor? The solicitor route seems very expensive and I'm worried it could affect us selling the house one day. Thanks for any help.

Neighbour disputes are to be avoided if at all possible. If selling a property I believe any such disputes must be declared. (i.e. you are duty-bound to advise any would-be buyers; they don't have to ask about it).
However, unless you can sort the issue amicably then you may need to go the legal route. Do you have legal protection cover on your home or motor insurance?0 -
Hi,
Thanks for responding. I currently don't have legal cover, but as my home insurance is coming to an end perhaps I should get it on my new one!0 -
I doubt a new policy would cover a pre-existing dispute. If, as seems to be the case, the neighbour is not amenable to discussion it sounds like you might have to stump up for a solicitor.
As I understand it Bod is correct in that disputes have to be declared when a property is sold, but you have a dispute already so a resolved dispute might be preferable to a festering dispute.Je suis Charlie.0
