The fire engine was actually attending a house further up the road but was stuck about 300yrds away by the cars.

Thanks for that but to be honest, i'm just going to leave it, i'm really not that fussed as some here would think and it seems like a big can of worms to open.
  • Just one more OP ;)

Are you covered by a Parish Council? If so then it's a quick & easy option to contact them and see if they have a view. They might have already had residents complaining and in any case they will have the right contacts in the county council or highways department that can advise.

We are in a similar situation locally (people parking illegally and blocking exits etc) and have asked for double yellows, our parish council are handling the whole thing.

  • I know a road like this, in parts they park both sides, and I often have trouble getting a lorry through.
All it needs is lines 1 side, wouldn't leave any less parking space.
Fire brigade etc have done leaflets.
Been like it for 10 years that I know of.

Town where I use to live had a problem with cars parking on a narrow road and not leaving a wide enough space for emergency vehicles, a property had a serious major fire with someone trapped inside, two fire engines went down and took most of the wing mirrors of the parked cars plus a few dents in some.

I'd love double yellow lines outside my house, up and down the street, and round the corner, in fact all along my route to work as well would be heaven :happylove

I'd paint them myself if the council would let me ;)

all ready legislation in place re fire access, the fire service can/could ask the police to enforce it if they wished.

Sadly any fire driver damaging a row of cars (as in the examples above) would probably be charged/sacked :-(

  • Drivers just need educating to park considerately. My driving instructor taught me that when i park on a road i need to leave enough space for a fire engine to get through, not to mention the bits in the highway code about not parking on bends or withing so many feet of a junction.

Yes, I would do the same. Also, I would put "No cyclist" (if there is one like that) sign on my street, oh and buses are sometimes a nightmare so I would get rid of them too. ;)

Buses, don't start me on buses

Huge, badly driven sub 20mph, belch out nearly as much smoke as a BMW diesel and drip oil/diesel everywhere, get half the road to themselves and STILL manage to cause gridlock.

The sooner Clarkson gets to be Transport Minister and does something about them the better ;)
