Microsoft pop up email message on startup

For the past few weeks, every time I start up Windows 7, live mail, I get a pop up which states
" we have noticed some unusual activity in your account etc.". This seems to refer to an account which was with my previous ISP of more than 3 years ago. I don't seem to be able to verify my current Gmail address as verification doesn't arrive in my inbox.
How can I get rid of this please?
Thanks.

Sally

Do you use Live mail with multiple email addresses, or just one?

If the email purports to come from Microsoft (because it may not be genuine) then I would log into outlook.com and see if it brings a message up. It should guide you through options to verify and you can also look at what activity has taken place on your account.
