Question about proving cost to taxman for car boot items

When I started up as self-employed 15 years ago, I went to a tax workshop where they said that they preferred to see handwritten book-keeping because it was more difficult to fake than onscreen. I guess that things have moved on since then (!) but it would make sense to keep a handwritten book with a record of where the carboot sale was, what you bought, price etc and then type it up afterwards - a battered book that has obviously been carried around and written in at different times is going to look more convincing than a nice neat printout.0
