I wake up to Radio 4 Savvy and listened first hand to the James Naughtie "Jeremy Hunt" spoonerism. I nearly missed work that day:rotfl:

Please don't listen if you feel you might be offended by a certain swear word......or play while children are close by....anyway they should be in bed:rotfl:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-JpNravrwZc

Ooo, I'd be more offended by the assumption I would be offended:D.

No, I've heard that before - it's one that gets played in our house occasionally as part of a return back to a special interest every now and then:rotfl:.

I don't know why we keep children away from certain words (or attempt, and fail, to do so) - it was that, above all else, that gave me such a problem with them in certain places now as an adult. Making them taboo and therefore uncomfortable (in certain places, with certain people). My parents and teachers caused me, in retrospect, immense harm by following the standards of society and doing that. Social conditioning is often at its most powerful and formative effect in childhood. Anyway..., enough of that!

What always 'annoys' me is when the BBC removes the very excerpts in question from its i-Player catch-up. The best part of the whole programme and they remove that section. They edit records on the radio as well and remove the best parts of the songs, replacing them with material which is more uncomfortable and offensive because of its hidden nature to what it now implies, and implants even more firmly in the mind, often more severe than what the original song said.

    Anyway...;):rotfl:

(Yes, folks, I'm the one with the problem with the supposedly "censored" versions because either the supposed "censorship" is totally ineffective and therefore does not qualify as such, communicating the same thing as the original but in an (annoying, nowadays, and) attentive way, or else it suggests far worse and does so in a far more powerful and impactive way. A bugbear you've got me onto...:o:o Really do have problems with that - I wish they wouldn't try to disguise it as that makes me feel extremely more uncomfortable, in the (often severe) physical offence-caused way. I can accept the reason why they do it, but it does create and give me so much more of an issue with it.)

Onto other things - or possibly the same thing but at least a different sub-strand: interestingly - and I'm taking you literally;) - I note that you say don't listen "if you feel you might be offended". Not "if I might be offended", but if I "feel" I might be. And...not if I feel I may or if I feel I will be offended, but "might" instead.

It's interesting terminology. Presumably, even if I feel I will be offended but that I might not be, I can still listen? And, what I don't really understand is this "feeling" that I might. Surely, if were to "feel" that I "might be offended", then any feeling or perception of possible offence that might occur to me soon in the future would itself be a feeling that would be uncomfortable (offensive) to have? I don't understand how, if you felt you might be offended, that such a feeling would not itself be a feeling of offence, since you perceived the possibility of being caused offence and therefore felt uncomfortable (offended) at that possibility possibly happening. The expectation of being caused offence would surely create a discomfort feeling in yourself. Otherwise if you didn't feel you might be offended, then you won't be and no offence to you would ever arise. I don't understand the concept that you've put forward there:rotfl: - and I don't suspect that you intended me to interpret your words "feeling you might be..." that way:rotfl::rotfl:. And :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: what if I'm in doubt and don't really know one or way another how I might feel?:rotfl: As if the ordinary person really considers these things or makes any mathematical calculation of likelihood as to how they might "feel"!

Anyway, when you said you nearly missed work that day, you were rolling around bloody laughing, so you couldn't possibly have been offended!!:D:rotfl:

Anyway, yes, I think some people may recognise Mr Ley from BBC Radio 4.

Thankyou for you reply but unfortunately I have not quite reached that criteria yet:rotfl::rotfl:a year or so to go and also I did manage to evade it a few years ago through ill health when they thought I had had a stroke:eek:so i think I am just going to have to grin and bare it:(

Nanny I know you can get a deferment once. This will at least get you past xmas.
If you have a disability you can get yourself taken off the call up register.

My second call up I was working at sea so wrote and deferred. When I got home I wrote and explained I had already done it once before and was disabled and was removed from register.

If you are happy to do the service then a deferment might suit you.
There is loads of in the pack. Have a good read.

Am not totally sure but I think it is voluntary if your second service.

It can be a fascinating thing to do. I made the judge laugh every time I walked in as needed a large book to put my feet on as benches were high and my feet did not touch the floor.

    Update on Dad
Funding in place for respite care and pallative care lady spent a long time talking to both my dad and sister today. Sister visited one home but totally not suitable as room was in the eves of an old building and dad would not have been able to get out of bed without banging his head.
The Home we prefer funding told us had no space.
I phoned the Home and they do have space and sister going to look tomorrow. Reason we were told it was full was funding will not fully cover it but shortfall is not an amount worth worrying about.

We also have an extended family member who works at this home which is nice. Fingers crossed I will know decision tomorrow.

Sister upset me a bit as asked me to stay away until sorted as I unsettle dads routine. I told her I will work with whatever routine was in place and couldn't tell me to stay away.
She apologized. I know I normally visit at lunch or tea but saturday it just was not possible and did tired dad more as really wanted a
    nap.

It is a case of working together. She again is not keen on dgc bringing a picture over but I promised dd will arrange a time with her within dads routine.

To be honest she must have had one hell of a day today.

I must thank everyone for their messages and stories of their own journeys. It was comforting to know not everyone finds the support easy to get and many things mentioned were things we were not aware of.
We are on the right road. Next hurdle is when dad realises he is due a transfusion that he will not be getting.
Not baby steps but one giant hurdle after another.

I am happy dad will be getting 24 hour nursing. I know he doesn't really need it as nothing can be done but he thinks he does and it makes him feel safer. Also whenever he gets distressed, which to be honest has been since july, he can be given a little sedation if required. Also takes the fear out of the end of life drugs as we had images of him being in difficulties and the district nurse not turning up on time.

Hoping now we can enjoy our time left with Dad in a calmer way.

VT I'm glad things have moved a little for you and you are getting access to some help.

It is understandable that things can get a bit strained between family but I truly hope you can now enjoy your time together with your dad and sister.
