so sad i remember as a kid watching her in All creatures great and small, it was one of my favourite programmes and of course as the oxo mum , I did not realise she was so ill:(0 -

"Shoppers at the Aldi store in Manchester's Arndale centre told Sky News that it was simply the store's cheaper prices that attracted them."
Cheaper on a few headline offers and they go down to significantly cheaper on those than the major supermarkets do (when we exclude T 1p products:rotfl:) but, in general, same price as the major supermarkets. But that last point doesn't matter - it's the perception that they are discounters that matters.
:doh:There must be some way that the stores are making profits.
"...the company denies being a 'no-frills' business. ... 'No-frills suggests that shoppers have to make a compromise and that they are less satisfied with their shopping ... this is not the case at Aldi.'"
Indeed. They are suggesting that their own brand (perhaps standard range items rather than labelled as being "Value") are equivalent to the brands - some people are attracted by the prospect of getting "brand quality" but for own brand prices. You can see where Aldi is positioning itself there.
Remember my tale from last time there where I saw the customer in front of me get a bill of £60:eek:. It does work!:D People can spend as much in Aldi as in a major (indeed I spotted several items going through the till in his shopping that were much cheaper or more efficiently bought, in different sizes, one of the major supermarkets (usually A vs a competitor, but one, heaven forfend, was cheaper at Sainsbobs:rotfl:)) but, as long as they feel they are getting a good deal or not being overcharged too much, they will shop there.
When even the media are referring to you as a "budget chain" and a "discount supermarket", and are thus labouring under the same perception that the majority of the public is...
(you're doing very well.)0 -

Haven't been around for the past week so just done a catch-up this morning. My twin sisters are at an age now where they want seperate rooms and as I'm the eldest (22) my parents have been trying to encourage me to vacate my room
. They are putting up the finance for a small house for me and so I've been viewing a few properties here in Essex over the past week. I'm also applying to join the police force where dad works and he has offered to get me a new small car for my birthday if I show a positive attitude. I am thinking of a Mini Cooper but not sure yet. It is all very hectic and a bit concerning for me but I realise I've got to start making my own life now - and I've always got the best of families to lean on and get support from should I need it.
