Morning all and thanks for the birthday wishes. I ended up getting immersed in a maize maze and then fruit picking after. The rest of the day was too random for words!

Oh no, dont say that. Had to call an ambulance earlier due to OH having severe breathing problems (he has COPD and keeps getting flare ups). Took ambulance 45 mins to get here  but now safely in hospital being cared for :A

    Hope OH is ok.

    :)

Antibiotics and steroids should do the trick.

Also noticed you quoted locarr's post re: doctors being able pick and choose their hours.

    This is not strictly true.

The only doctors who can pick and choose their hours are locum doctors (about 5-10% of UK doctors). The majority of doctors (90+%) cannot pick their hours. They are given a rota and they have to stick with it. You can swap like-for-like shifts (night shift for a night shift, 8-5 day shift for another 8-5 day shift etc.) but you can't just say to the rota co-ordinator 'I'm not doing that night shift because I feel like it'. You also cannot take annual leave when you're on-call.

Could you imagine a system where all doctors pick and choose their shifts?

    :rotfl:

The least busiest day in a hospital is probably Christmas day, with the busiest probably being Boxing Day. Personally, my household would be happy to celebrate Christmas on Boxing Day if it meant I'd have a stress free day at work on 25th December.

As a child growing up...we always celebrated christmas day and boxing day on 27th and 28th Dec...

My mum used to work every 25th and 26th so it just became the norm for us to celebrate it as a family slightly differently.

Even now im not that fussed by the actual day of christmas day!

  • Morning,

Quick question, has anyone done a click and collect with the glade sense and spray relaxing zen, and did it compare. I've only seen the cinamoin and apples ones being done.

    Thanks

    :(:(:(:(

Looking forward to long hot bath & to finish my book but no hot water :eek:

Usually you turn the taps under boiler to fill it back to green bit on dial but 1 tap just goes round & the other just leaks - had it serviced in May.

    Now awaiting boiler man :(

Hospital doctors can't pick and choose their hours. GP's I don't know so much about. There is always a consultant, registrar and SHO on call in hospital. On-call 24 hours a day 7 days a week so please don't worry about your oh needing hospital treatment out of regular hours, he'll get the best care there is x

Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about.

    :T

Re: GPs. Depends on their contracts. Some are locums, but most are not.

People in the medical world think that the life of a GP is easy too. 8-6 Mon - Fri. Easy peasy lemon squeezy?

It really isn't. A GP typically sees about 35 patients a day. Of those, some will need blood tests, some will need referrals, some will need a letter to social services, ATOS, etc and 2 patients are so unwell that they need to go straight to hospital. So now an ambulance needs to be phoned through, letters need to be written to the A&E doctors as to why they need to be admitted.

Then there's the blood results for the 10 patients you requested a week ago, they need to be filed/acted upon, a few discharge summaries from hospital for recently admitted patients who require a repeat blood test done by a GP or new medication started. At the same time, there are medical students and junior doctors who require training, so you need to give up an hour of your time (after all, if there was no training, where would our future generation of British GPs come from?). Add to this already busy schedule 3 home visits during your designated 'lunch break'.

The reality is that GPs work from 7am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Some even have a link to their GP practice computer systems from home so that they can catch up with paperwork on weekends!

Chuck in the odd complaint here and there and a major court case every few years (unfortunately, we can mistakes) then no wonder so many are taking early retirement.

2 of the 6 GPs that I worked for had taken retirement 10 years early whilst I was there. Another one was thinking of doing the same.
