We had a quote from B and q to supply only a new kitchen it was all measured up and we went for a middle of the range kitchen the price was just on £4k .
A few weeks later I decided to get a quote from Wickes they came measured it and went away they were offering free installation and 0 per cent on anything over £3k
anyway I thought if they say around the £5 to 6 k mark I'd consider it again based on a middle of the range kitchen the quote .........
£21848 yes 21k
I told the sales woman what planet was she off and how could she arrive at this cost and that I'd come for a price and not her mobile number she took some offence
I said about my B. And Q quote which she said she would like to see so I produced it she then went on to say on Tuesday wickes were having a 50 percent off so I said that would reduce it to just over £10k and they would still make on it yet they could take me for another £10k today
she said she would phone me Tuesday see if I was still interested I told her goodbye and good luck

The prices from Wickes and all others are lottery numbers and they are tempetations. We were hooked and regret it now.Band Q say now all prices are as in broucher. Some Government dept should investigate this industry to safeguard innocent customers. Salesman only greedy for their commission. Wickes salesman earn £50k plus commission. They get targets and push it .0

There are maybe less than 20 in the country that earn anything like that amount... you have to be pretty exceptional and in a very busy store to do that kind of money. There are over 500 designers working for Wickes at any one time....
It is not normally, compared to many others, a hard sell process (If you want Hard sell...try Wren!)
If they want to earn that kind of money, they should not misjudge expectations and budgets as badly as Muscle750's did....
Never ever, buy out of sale from any of the sheds. You have to be mad to do so, and quite frankly your designer would have to be mad to think you would! If you play the game correctly, and you have a designer you can work with, you will get the right kitchen at the right price.
Kitchens probably have the least transparent pricing of anything and why might that be? Because it works. Anyone who moves away from the HI/LO selling method suffers in the market. Wickes tried earlier in the year to make a move away from this route and had poor sales as a result when they tried. Recently they have gone back to the "50%" off sales and had a far better time of it.
B&Q may say that the price in the list is what you pay, but how many times a year do they change that price list?
Even the trade sheds do it. How credible a trade discount is 80%?
There is a groundswell of opinion that wants to change this, but the sales figures don't lie. People like to think they are getting a bargain, Retailers need to make money. The truth is, that if you are a retailer HI/LO is the way to go. The figures prove it. Retailers would quite like to move away from it but the public don't.
The only people who can change this is Joe Public by voting with your feet. If you want honest pricing, buy from those who offer it, not from those who make you think you are getting a bargain.
Sadly...the figures suggest that you do just the opposite!0 -
Look lets bring this back down to earth.
You don't need anyone here to tell you that £22k or even £10k is high for a kitchen, agreed?
So, go to a local installer, get him to do the required legwork.
If he knows the job needs doing for ZX amount of pounds, he will give you the options.
I do assume here that this is an even larger than average size kitchen, 12ft x 10ft lets say?
Avoid the sheds is my messageI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
