You can now buy 'vet only products', like Drontal, over the counter, nowadays, as they no longer need a prescription, but a few years back, a vet on a dog forum advised members that the, then, over-the -counter products (including BM's) did not work, so were a waste of money.0

It is not about BM product "not working" - they KILLED a lot of animals and that is the problem.

I cant understand why BM products are not taken off the market. Who would want to risk their pets health for the sake of a few extra pounds?0
-
Loads of people do not know any better - they think if they buy somethng in a pet store/supermarket then it is safe/ok.0
-
why do stores choose to stock BM?0

What I mean is why isnt it banned and taken off the shelves? Why dont people who have had their pet injured or killed by their products sue them?0

In a previous job, I dealt with insurance claims for Bob Martin and I would receive very upsetting letters
The standard response that I had to give was that the product was safe and it must have been an extreme allergic reaction.
This was many, many years ago before the birth of the internet. I would not be happy if I had to deal with those claims now.0 -
Another product I avoid is teatree oil .
The vet, mentioned above, said there was a report in a vet journal, that there is some evidence that teatree oil absorbed through dogs' skin can cause neurological damage. She said she didn't take notice of everything reported , but this article was by someone who was an authority...so we all threw out our shampoos, sprays and toothpastes. (She only mentioned dogs, but imagine the same would apply to other animals).0 -
We never do Bob Martin's. Apparently it has been banned in some countries, its ineffective for worms / fleas / whatever its been advertised for, and it kills cute fluffy things.
Vet said today that for the over the counter pet health products, like BM's, don't actually need to be tested to check their effectiveness
Only licenced products - prescribed by a vet, or given from those locked units in Pets At Home, Jollies. etc by specially trained staff are tested to ensure they work.
Update. We think we're going to call Shadow. Vet thinks its a boy, but says there is too much fluff to be sure! Will check again when he goes for his vacinations in a few weeks - have him all booked in. He has been checked all over, apart from his weight, perfectly healthy! Vet thinks that although he is very small, as well as bony, going by his teeth, eyes, and what he can do he is closer to 6 weeks then 4. Hoping his overall growth will catch up with a good diet.
He has now decided that everything is a toy! Trying to catch the dogs tongue earlier
Its lovely to see him so lively - part from the 5am hypermania. Decided to attack my fingers this morning - must have been twitching in what was a very pleasant sleep. Its a darn good job he's such a cutie!!! :j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -
I wish you every success with rearing Shadow. Glad the vet says Shadow is closer to 6 weeks than 4. even so, its very young to be weaned. please keep us updated - he/she sounds a real handful!0
