large gap below inbuilt oven and plinth

Hi, i will try to attached a photo to show this, but we had an oven that didn't seem to work correctly, so replaced it. When i removed the old oven i noticed that it wasn't housed within a under counter unit, but just sat on a base that looked to be DIY built and just served to hold the oven at the right height..
But i put my new oven in and have noticed a very large gap between the bottom of the oven door and the panel that covers the shelf it resides on (best way i can describe it), this panel matches the kitchen doors, and then below this is the plinth covering the legs and mess of an oven stand.

I did get an oven unit in the recent B&Q sales and have built it, but not installed yet as need to do a little more work before i can. but my concern is when (if) the unit fits in there will be a noticeable gap between either the kitchen unit and plinth, or between the oven and the work surface (as the oven sits flush under the counter at the moment).
i think a photo will show what i mean.

Could you move the front panel up ?
You would still have a gap , but it would be a lot less obvious

It because who ever installed the kitchen did it on the cheap.

You normally install a single built under oven in a built under housing unit. That allows the oven to sit at the correct height and then a specifically sized filler piece covers the gap where your (wrongly sized) filler piece is now.

If you can find out where the kitchen came from you maybe able to buy the correctly sized filler piece. Also it shouldn't be screwed on like yours. Its held on with clips so you don't see screwheads.

Getting a bigger filler panel, as suggested above, is probably the neatest and best option.

Alternatively, if you can live with the oven a few inches lower, (and I don't like having to bend down to under counter ovens anyway), then lower the oven so that the only gap is at the top where it either will not be seen or can be filled with a strip of colour matched wood, or silver or black painted wood, or a strip of stainless steel etc.

Another alternative would be to add a piece of thin plywood or similar to the back of the existing filler panel. Size it so that it is as tall as the filler panel plus the gap and either have all the surplus below the panel or do it half and half so that equal amounts are seen above and below the panel. If you paint it to a close colour match, the end result should look ok, and be better than the existing gap.

Only you will really notice that it isn't a perfect job.

    Good luck.
  • A brushed aluminium or stainless steel filler panel could be an alternative. Easier than trying to match the wood.

sorry, not been around for a week, will look into a larger filler, or lowering the oven.
I did purchase an under counter cabinet for it to sit in, but not been able to install, mainly due to an electrician running a cable through the base of the current makeshift shelf the oven sits on, so i will need to pull the wiring back, and re run it. and i never seem to get any spare time..
im hoping that the under counter will make it sit better, and hide the gap at the bottom, but may create one at the top..
