Safest methods for sending smartphone?

Morning all.
I am going to list my previous smartphone on Ebay - I have just upgraded - it is still in v good nick and judging by recently ended auctions for the same phone, I could get a decent amount of money for it. I assume Special Delivery is the best way to send it - would that be right?
I have read some awful stories where buyers have claimed receiving an empty box - is there anything else I should be doing before I send the phone should this happen (i.e. photos, imei no. etc.?) I know I am maybe overreacting but just want to be prepared!!
Thanks

Make sure all your settings are UK only.
Special delivery is wise.
Make sure you note the serial number and take loads of photos of condition.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Safest way would be to sell it for cash on collection0

Try gumtree, it's free and you should get a good price and you lose the risks involved with posting.0

I'd be tempted to mention that my insurance company insisted that it was marked with smartwater or similar.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Many thanks everyone - thanks for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it.0

Hope you get lucky and get an honest buyer...I didnt he said it wouldnt power up and said he would send it back..He sent me back a box of cardboard pieces weighing the same as my phone so according to ebay I had signed for my phone back..
It took a lot of phone calls and emails and involving the crime fraud people to get my money refunded which ebay had retaken from my paypal account
just my experience of selling a smartphone on ebay ..never again for me0 -
Work out what you are going to be charged in fees from paypal and ebay. Compare that to what you might get from exchanging in somewhere like CEX.
Whilst the majority of ebay sales go without a hitch, expensives phones are areas in which fraud is higher. You might get less at CEX or one of the phone exchanges, but there is much, much less chance of it going sour, and the difference in price may not be great after fees.0
