Hobs: halogen vs. ceramic

Hello,

can someone tell me the advantages of halogen over ceramic hobs (if there are any)? Any recommended brands or ones to avoid?

Thanks! :)

Ceramic Hobs can have halogen, radiant or semi-halogen heating elements under a heat resistant glass. Halogen is a bulb with a tungsten element and halogen gas. Semi-halogen is a halogen bulb surrounded by a radiant element. Ceramic hobs will usually be all radiant, or a mixture of halogen, or semi-halogen and radiant.

Halogen hobs/rings have faster responce, but (I believe) have shorter lifespan than conventional radiant ceramic hobs/rings.

I had a halogen hob on a big old electric cooker in my last house. I loved it - quick, responsive, and spectacularly beautiful when you're cooking by low-ish light - friends really impressed. Sadly, I couldn't bring it with me when I moved. Only drawback is that you have to use special pans, prefferably glass, on a halogen hob. Glass pots of simmering vegetables, with the red light glowing through them, is very pretty - perfect for a dining kitchen.
    Nice to save.

We had halogen rings on our cooker in our last house. Like tobit, we thought they were better than the standard ceramic. But we didn't use any particular sort of pan. It didn't seem to matter. Never went wrong, though I always thought they would be pretty easy to replace if they did.
