Because they are coming with only their own recommendation.
I think I said earlier, maybe it was another thread, the guys worth having very rarely have the need to advertise.
A recommendation from work colleagues etc is a better option in my view, given you are new to the area.
And yes you were wise to ask posters to PM only with recommendations, but even that leaves you open to a self recommendation situation, there are some dodgy service providers out there, (and in the name of fairness some dodgy customers too. I've been chastised for omitting that before).;);)
