Can you help me with a tasty meal plan?

I have the fussiest most ungrateful family ever. I shall shut my mouth and just put something delicious on the table so that I have at least tried.

I need a meal plan made out of my Budget Shopping List. From post 1.

That seems like a strange way to approach it. Surely you had meals in mind when you shopped for all that stuff.

My approach is generally to see what I have in fridge/freezer/cupboards and see what minimal amount of ingredients I need to buy to make it into 7 meals.

Or is it that you're looking for some different meals but fussy family will only eat those ingredients.

If you have time opting for dried beans & pulses over tins would make a small saving

I must have about a dozen different kinds of dried lentils & pulses but i'm starting to run-out. I always found Morrisons gave the best choice but none of the supermarkets seem to be doing many now.
I was thinking of making a trip into town (Liverpool) and trying out the shops in Chinatown.

You know, it's really really weird.

I was googling a few bits from your list - so I could give some recipe suggestions, and I accidentally selected and pasted a little too much text.

Imagine my surprise when your exact shopping list came up on several sites.

The oldest one I could find was December 2012

As far as I can tell, it was originally a netmums article - a budget shopping list and recipes. I can't find the original article, but I'd guess it's been archived somewhere.

    How odd...
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

  • If you want to cut the budget further take out some of the meat and fish meals and put vegetarian meals in instead.

    How very odd indeed!;)

It didn't ring true somehow when I read the post. Why would you buy a load of stuff and then think what could you make with it. I can understand people posting that they want to try and stretch the budget from what's left in the freezer and cupboards but to organise a whole shopping list and buy it all in with no idea of what you're going to make didn't make any sense at all.

Unless OP can come up with another explanation then I think that's taking advantage of posters' willingness to help and poor form.

sailorsam, I think I saw some basic pulses in Home Bargains (lentils, broth mix etc) but if you want a wide range then an Indian supermarket may be the answer.

Thanks i'll have a look, Morrisons use to do loads and when i do curry or casserole in the SC i've been putting a handful of each in.
I agree i thought it was an odd OP

yes I got it off Netmums but they did not make a meal plan with it and it is a strange way to approach it I blame my autistic genes for that.

I have been playing around with this list ever since and most people agree it is a very good budget shopping list but what do you make with it? I use it as a start to my shopping list and substitute the things I will not eat for something similar such as coleslaw with a green salad.

Now I am wondering what delicious meals my family would actually eat from this list in the form of a meal plan, as a template or starting point. So yes looking for some different meals.

The stuff I actually have in house usually gets used by use by date and I can usually use it up. I want to use the budget stuff as a meal plan template so that my budget naturally comes down. My shopping last month was back up to over £500 again so I need to think more around the budget side of things,

There is more than one way to skin a cat well in my mind anyway.

Try either Matta's on Bold Street or the Chinese supermarket attached to the Tai Pan restaurant :)

I usually get a few bits in this shop https://asenseofplaceblog.wordpress.com/2014/12/21/shopping-on-lodge-lane/ every week, and there are also very good similar shops in Smithdown road (at top, old Kwiksave) and Lodge lane.
