Humax pvr acting weirdly

I have a humax pvr 9150T which is driving me nuts.
It has been working ok for the past 3 or 4 years. Unfortunately it has now developed a fault.
Some channels have stopped working and I get the message that 'The channel is scrambled or not available' followed by 'no or bad signal'.
Not only that but I am starting to get bits of radio on these tv channels, for example channel 4 has audio from BBC Radio 2(not continuosly but quarter second snatches). The other problem tv channels are similarly affected with different radio channels.
These channels were fine previously and are all free to air channels. They include the following:
ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV2, Channel 4+1, More 4, Film4, E4, ITV+1.
I receive my signal from the Emley Moor transmitter and have identified all these channels coming off the PSb2mux.
I have tried the following procedures to fix the problem and none have succeeded.
1. Turning off the humax box for many hours before powering it back on.
2. Different antennae cables.
3. Taking the box to my neighbours and using their aerials.
4. Retuning the channels.
All the channels from the other multiplexes are still working fine. Only the PSB2 channels have suddenly stopped working.
I also have a freeview tv which when attached to the same aerial displays all the freeview channels including the PSB2 ones perfectly.
Anyone have a clue to what is going on?

Did you replace the capacitors with low ESR type? If not, you might need to do that as it's a known weakness.

However, I think your problem is caused by the recent update.

Go to the Hummy forums HERE. You will find more specific answers from people who are really into their Humax machines..

Try performing the following sequence - what have you got to lose?
Please follow the steps below to perform a factory default reset:

    1. Power OFF the receiver
    2. Disconnect the Aerial cable
    3. Power ON the receiver
    4. Press MENU
    5. Select Installation
    6. Enter your password (default = 0000)
    7. Select Default Setting
    8. Select YES
    9. Enter your password (Default = 0000)
    10. When the receiver restarts, power OFF
    11. Connect the Aerial Cable
    12. Power ON – the receiver and search for channels.

NB Before doing the above, make a note of any recordings that you have scheduled as these will be lost and will need rescheduling again afterwards but your recordings will not be wiped.
This is the official Humax technical support procedure that is known to have fixed various 'weird problems' for many users that a full format does not.

You may also want to disable regular automatic software updates as there are no more and change any other user preferences to suit your requirements.

  • After the recent revision of channel numbers my Humax 9300T got its knickers in a twist. The symptom was curtailing recordings on BBC1. I traced it to having tuned form more than one transmitter, resulting in channels in the 800 range.

I resolved it by clearing the entire list as described above, and then instead of an automatic retune, tuned it through each multiplexer one by one manually, explicitly the selecting the UHF channel numbers for my preferred transmitter.

Are you running the current software version for the 9150?

I believe it is the latest update even though it is 3 years old as Humax appear to no longer support this unit. Anyway, just to let everyone know that I fixed the problem by doing another automatic retune. Why it did not work the first time, I have no idea but it is ok now.
