Hello all,
My handy hubby has decided that he would be able to fit a bathroom suit himself.
So - Where does everyone recommend for buying JUST the suite and not having to have Odd Job Bob from B&Q come to fit it for you?
Online? Bathstore or Victoria Plumb or similar?

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

You can buy it anywhere and fit it yourself, you don't have to have a supply and fit service0

Hiya - Thats what I meant.... where are the best places (quality and value) to buy bathroom suites these days....?Baldrick, does it have to be this way? I fitted a suite for a customer recently who had got it from Victoria Plumb. We had quite a few problems with it. The acrylic bath was incredibly thin, so much so that we could actually see light through it. We had problems with the hidden cistern and I ended up replacing it at my expense.
Be careful of the companies that advertise on the TV offering low prices. The prices are low as the quality is often poor.
Try your local independent plumbers merchants who often have bathroom showrooms and offer a much more personal service.
I have always found B & Q to have logistics problems. If something isn't in stock, its often weeks or months for it to be delivered. This also means if you get it home and its damaged, you will wait weeks for a replacement.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
If you decide to buy online, read the review sites to see what people experienced when doing business with them. Trustpilot or reselleratings which has some UK sites among the majority which are US.
Research the bath to ensure that you get something which is decent quality and solid. Some acrylic baths are reinforced such as trojancast and similar. Cheap can mean very thin.0 -
We chose our current bathroom suite in a Wolseley Plumb Centre showroom. As the cost of placing an order in a showroom is humongously expensive, we took our business to the local Plumb Centre branch where it cost 1/4 of the price.
An old friend of mine who is a plumber fitted it at mates rates so we had a massive amount of the budget left to splash out on the tiles.
You really do need to talk to whoever you want to fit the suite before a purchase & whoever is going to fit it needs to know what they're doing because there is a lot that can go wrong.
We bought an acrylic bath tub with 8mm thickness which is just about the minimum quality you should be happy with.0 -
+1 for Plumb CenterYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0

Start with a list of brands/manufacturers and use their sites to get an idea of what is available, there are hundreds of options and the quality will vary a lot,
(goggle with manufacturer, otherwise you get manly suppliers)
this is a list of BMA members there will be more
http://www.bathroom-association.org/members.asp
The list prices are also probably 30%-60% over what you can get the stuff for.
There are loads of options and a lot of places only deal with a few as they get better discounts so helps to know whats out there.
Also if looking at furniture(cupboards to hide pipes/cisterns) the quality and price varies a lot.
When it come to taps and other sunderies the choice gets even wider.
I got a copy of the Vado trade guide to have a look through 200pages(A5)
https://www.vado-uk.com
and that is just one manufacturer of taps/bits.
For wall coverings worth having a look at the waterproof panels rather than tiles some look really good and are fited seamless.
For floor coverings we are now looking at LVT options for our hall and bathrooms.
Might as well gut and start fresh?
You could alsway look at bidets and/bidet attachment for that clean bottom experience.
http://biobidet.co.uk/
Or cheaper add ons if you google
Toilet Bidet attachment0 -

Agree totally.
OP, there will be a specialist but local bathroom supplier near you.
Don't go via the sheds or poorly recommended online suppliers.
I'm east mids otherwise I could recommend my choiceI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
A few online places order from the manufacture and get them to deliver, so some of the delivers can be a bit iffy as you are dealing with web shop ---> MF ----> courier.
Find somewhere local where they can deliver either on a saturday or in a evening (offer to slip the delivery guy a tenner to get this)0 -
Local plumbers merchant - without a doubt! They will be able to help with plumbing queries and materials as well as having reasonable prices and good quality stuff.0
