Filtered telephone/ adsl slave socket

I've added a filtered telephone/ adsl slave socket about 5m from the master socket using 3-pair 6-core telephone wire. The telephone works from both the master and slave socket, but my adsl modem now only works from the master. Any ideas why this is? Can you use telephone wire for this job or does it have to be cat 5e? Thanks for any help.

It depends on what your master socket style is, and how you've wired the extension.

I suspect the master is already a filtered faceplate and you've wired the extension from the filtered side.

PS - you only need connections on terminals 2 and 5 at the extension.

Aha! The problem I think is that the new component is faulty. I've tried with a different slave socket and traditional filter and all works well. I will try and return the new one. Do you think that "rings" true? The master socket definitely isn't pre filtered and wiring is correct.

The same pair (2&5) get used for ADSL as voice so if the voice is working and there is definately no pre filtering it certainly sounds like the filtered faceplate could be faulty.

Is it teaching you to suck eggs to say that filtered faceplates have both a filtered (standard 431A phone connector) telephone socket and a socket for your ADSL router (maybe RJ11 or RJ45) and the router will only work from the correct one?

Didn't have enough faith in myself to not double check, but was all in the right place. Think I'll return it was from Amazon and there normally very good at returns. Thanks again.
