Faulty divan bed

We recently took delivery of a divan bed where the base and mattress were by different manufacturers.
On the same day of delivery we reported a faulty draw on 1 base and caster not fully home on the other, a customer service rep came to inspect.
A replacement base was delivered, we have a new fault, the mattress overhangs by 1 inch on the side when flush on the other side, the base measured 59inch & mattress 60inch the base was also marked. We informed them immediately and the we emailed dimensions of base & mattress as requested.
As 5ft is 60inch I cannot understand why the company thought the mattress is oversize?
At this point compensation / a good will gesture was mentioned by the company but they wanted to resolve the overhang issue first. A replacement mattress was to be supplied, we were told made specially to fit.
The replacement still overhangs by 1 inch on the side when flush the other side, a customer service rep came to inspect.
The Company are not prepared to solve the issue, they have decided to take the bed back and refund us , no consideration of any form of compensation for the inconvenience and stress caused.
We could of kept the bed for another 14 days but this will not bridge the gap of us waiting for delivery of our new bed from a different company.
Is there anything else we should of done as we still feel unsatisfied?

  • If the goods don't conform to contract then you are entitled to reject them for a full refund. The seller appears to have given you a full refund, so they have done what the Sale of Goods Act requires.

I assume that the bed and the mattress both came from the same seller (even if different manufactures), and were sold as compatible with each other?

I'm guessing that the 2 different manufacturers use different units of measurements.

1 used imperial good old fashioned 5ft, the other the divan maker used Metric, 150cm which equals 4ft11.

Both are acceptable in the industry, just not commonly used together!

Is an overhang of an inch (i.e. .5 inch per side) even noticeable?
