Electricity only
Hi - I am a new user so bear with me please.
We only have electricity (ie. no other energy source). Can we get a good deal on single energy source? A lot of the deals look as though they are aimed at dual fuel. I am considering joining the MSE Cheap energy club but can't see anywhere where I can ask this question. Another question about the Cheap energy club (I am sure some of you out there will be members) - if you switch to a new deal aren't you tied into that deal for say, 1 year, 2 years? and if so how can you switch again if a better deal comes along (which the club says they constantly monitor and advise you if one does)?

Not only do you have one energy source you also have the most expense form of energy available. I would go to a comparison website to find the best rate for you. Also worth checking your EPC to see where you can save via insulation or alternative forms of heating.

Dual fuel deals are not as cheap as they used to be since OFGEM poked it's nose in, I am with separate gas and electric suppliers and it is cheaper than dual fuel.
Some suppliers lock you in with early exit penalties and others do not. I choose the cheapest for longest supplier and don't worry about the penalties, has never let me down yet.0 -
It is easier to find a good deal for electricity only than gas only - suppliers are allowed to "discriminate" against gas users and refuse to sell them a best-priced tariff only for their gas. This does not apply with electricity. Many tariffs are balanced to optimise for an average dual fuel user and this is done through skewing the gas and electricity prices. Electricity only users can exploit to find a good deal when they will be using far more than 3,2oo kWh per year - an option that is sometimes closed to gas users.0

Hi Louie
In answer to your questions:
- Yes you can join and switch via CEC for just electricity.
- We show all tariffs available on the market - this includes a range of fixed rates and variable tariffs. Dependent on the tariff, some have zero exit fees, meaning that you can switch again without penalty if a cheaper tariff is launched.
I hope this helps.0 -
If you only have electricitty available I would advice some sort of heat pump. With the RHI the capital costs can recupricated fairly quickly, and will be the cheapest way to heat your home with electricitty"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0
