Calls from Westcot - should I ignore?

Good morning

I have suddenly started getting phone messages from a Company called Westcot asking me to call them - they state my name and a reference number.

They arre apparently a debt collection agency - yet I am completely debt free and up to date with all bills - my credit rating is listed as excellent.

I have had nothing in the post to say that I have a debt.

Should i just ignore these calls - or will things just get worse? And if I don't ignore them, what action should I take?

Many thanks.

  • I'd ignore them, until/unless you get something in writing.

Do the various institutions you have dealings with (banks, CC companies, Council, CT Office, DVLA, etc.) have your current address?
  • Thanks bedsit. They do - and I've been here for over 10 years.
  • So, if Wescott have genuine business with you, they will have no problem putting it in writing to you.

If you're sure you're debt free then I would say there's no harm in calling them and letting them know they've got the wrong person.

That's what I did when Capquest kept calling me because I was getting annoyed by all the calls.

  • It may be worthwhile obtaining a copy of your Credit File just to check everything is in order (identity theft / mistaken default etc).

I'd also be happy to ring them to confirm they had the wrong information, rather than just leave it. Anything other than that should be in writing though ;-)
