Free boiler grants

I have an elderly relative with a 15 year old combi that is broken. The person concerned meets the criteria to receive a grant. I applied (about 3 weeks ago) through the links on MSE, but we've not heard anything.

What has been your recent experience?

What makes you think that a 15 year old combi cannot be repaired? Make and model?
    What is the actual fault?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I have previously went through the process of getting the free boiler, i cant remember the make and model but i had to pay for the boiler and then the premium was refunded to my account

Thanks, it has been repaired many times (circuit board, sensors, valve) and I think this time its the heating core that's gone. Would that be economical to repair?
  • One site I applied to said

Please do not apply on any other web site. Doing so could significantly delay your application."

    Is that correct?

No idea unless you give the make and model.

  • I have had a quote for a new boiler today 24/9/2014 and was told by the British Gas representative that the grant had been stopped.
    Is this correct?
Hubby and I are in our middle 80s and I am classed as his carer because he has Dementia.
  • Realistically your not going to get a free boiler until next year, you will get a grant but at the moment it will only pay for around half the cost of the installation . You need to go to a green deal installer, you can find a local one by going onto the green deal participants registeer

BG will typically quote you 40% more than an independent GSR RGI, so get some local quotes.
