This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, cloudy, dull and very overcast. We did get some rain yesterday but not very much and just during the late afternoon and evening.
DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early, he shouldn’t be too long – but I’ve heard that before – so won’t hold my breath about what time he’ll be home! DS1 having a lie-in after his first full working week. He’s going into town when he gets up to check that his money has gone into his bank and take a cheque to be put into our bank.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans and salad for the menfolk. I had jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad. Tonight we’ll be having egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, hash browns, beans, etc bread/butter or toast – not very healthy but mostly grilled and enjoyed by us all.
We had thought of taking a ride out either today or tomorrow but now DH said that we won’t bother as he’s working this morning – I totally understand he’s been running around all week etc but I haven’t been away from the house all week and really need to get out. I do need a couple of bits from SM – I deliberately didn’t buy any more lettuce as I’ve been ordering it with the on-line order and we got rather too much which resulted in having to throw some away – so I wanted to use up what we had before buying any more – I’m also going to purchase a bottle of wine for tomorrow’s lunch, which will be roast chicken, it’s likely that we’ll go down to the MrM which is our side of town, they will drop me off at the drop off/collection point outside the door then park and come in, I’ll go to the wine aisle and fresh fruit/veg/salad, just to get what I need.
Once I get through this next week – it won’t seem so long before I go back to the hospital – I’m really hoping I can go back to work but being realistic I’ll probably have to have an air boot for a couple of weeks – when I was at the hospital people who had their plasters cut off where mostly then having an air boot – but at least with that I can take it off to get a shower/bath and they are weight bearing, and I can get about easier. I’m so looking forward to getting this plaster off and stepping into a hot shower!
Have a good Saturday x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
I couldn't find the daily thread, I expect I've started a duplicate now.
Hugs to Molly, TTFM, LW, NMLC & anyone else in need.
I spent an hour with my still unnamed DGD, she is beautiful & so far as good as gold.
Plans for today include the usual housework, a dog sit from lunchtime today until tomorrow evening, hopefully a visit from one of the DGD's, some conker collecting & some more quilt assembly.
Thank you for all your good wishes re the baby, I hope I thanked everyone but sorry if I missed anyone.
Time I started making breakfast.
Have a good day everyone

Morning,
Been up a while was searching for the thread I thought it must have been started by now, then it popped up, hopefully you are all having a nice lay in.
Got an email to say they tried to deliver my phone yesterday, and will try again today, I must say I am very pleased with the service from Apple, collected it from my door it went to Holland and was fixed and was delivered back to my door 5 days later ! very impressed.
Got to take my laptop into the shop today to see if he can get my photos off of it, fingers crossed ! if he cant fix laptop I am going to have to buy another, and we also need to buy taps (still did not get round to ordering them).
Dinner tonight will be a beef casserole with thick chunks of bread and butter, dd is coming for dinner so I will make her a quorn chicken casserole with loads of extra veg in I will make her a few portions so she can take some home for the freezer.
Got a wash on the go with all my work clothes and my work shoes which are a soft type trainer shoe, they will have to go on the airer as its a bit gloomy here.
Hester how is the baby ?
Have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning everyone, what a difference a decent nights sleep makes!!!
We're off to the nice farm shop this morning so I can get a couple of gallons of vinegar to make some more chutney as the outdoor tomatoes have decided to all ripen this year and I've also quite a lot of damaged apples that are needing to be processed. I'll see if they have good sized pickling onions in as well, I won't tackle the tiny ones any more, they have to be a good size or you lose more in the peeling than you end up with. I make two different types of pickled onions one sweet vinegar and another with homegrown chillies, cloves, peppercorns and cinnamon sticks in the vinegar, both are yummy! I also have some beetroot in the polytunnel that needs harvesting so I'll make some pickled beetroot too as I've still got enough big jars. There goes my weekend, but it's worth it.
Hope all the poorlies are feeling a bit better today and that you all find something to make you smile and lift your spirits, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning All
Feeling a bit better today, had a bit of a meltdown last night at the state of the house. I have been trying to get this blinkin room painted single handedly all week when DD waltzes in and says she is so tired she needs to go to bed! It's her room, there's been no housework done, there's plaster dust all over the place and she thought she was doing me a favour by putting her work clothes in to wash. Well, we had words and she cleaned one of the bathrooms, dusted the living room and hoovered her room. I think I got my point across. Rant over, sorry.
Anyway, this morning I have caught up with the ironing, stripped my bed and put that and another load of washing on the line, advertised some things on Gum£ree from the old cars (snow socks and mats that have never been used), checked my car renewal and emptied the dishwasher.
Going to do some more painting in a minute, don't care that DD is still in bed, I shall drag that ladder over the floor so it makes a really loud noise!
Have a MacMillan coffee afternoon to go to this afternoon and then visit a friend in hospital this evening. Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Morning :hello:
We had to take two chickens to the vet yesterday, they both had a swelling under one eye and weren't eating. They had antibiotics and I have to inject them again on monday. I have to ring the vet on wednesday to let him know how they are, and if any of the others have the same problem he'll get a supply of ready-loaded needles by thursday so I can treat them all. Might have to ring our friend to arrange for him to come round and inject while were away, there's no way miss tru will do itI think they'll be OK though, the antibiotics usually take a couple of days to start working but they both skipped up the garden this morning for their food.
I cooked some of the apples yesterday and made a crumble – delicious with vanilla ice cream
I need to pickle some shallots, get two loads of washing done and clean out the fridge. I've been awake since 4.15am and haven't done anything yet, except eat breakfast, drink coffee and bung meat and veg in the slow cooker. I'm tired, achy and grumpy so I don't know if any jobs will actually get done today
I need to buy chicken feed, not sure if what I have will last while I'm away. Miss tru will be on chicken duty and I want to make sure she doesn't have to run around buying stuff for them. Plus it's Flubenvet time and she won't be able to buy it in the local shops, I have to order it online.

Morning All
Dank and drizzly here, but I have done a load of washing just in case it brightens up later, like it did yesterday.
I need to get my pickling sorted, I will probably get everything on Wednesday from the market and make a start.
Just finished my bowl of mush, and am waiting for DH to come home and take me to get some bits for a picnic at the zoo tomorrow, heaven knows what I am going to have, has anyone got an idea on very soft mushy stuff?
Got on the scales this morning and I have lost 2lb yeah!
DH has been to work, taken DD to work and has now gone to help a friend to move some furniture to their DD's new flat.
I need to check the garden in a little while to see if there is anything to bring in.
Off to do some housework BFN xBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Morning everyone. I'm sitting in a lovely little cafe at a nearby museum waiting for my car to have its MOT and oil change. Got to the garage in good time only to find I had left my mobile at home, so back down the road to collect it. Kilmartin museum overlooks a whole host of Neolithic burial cairns so it's easy to sit and gaze.
New dresser arrived yesterday and the two men (well one man and a very bewildered looking youth) managed, with great effort, to get it up the stairs and into the bedroom. Didn't unpack it 😱 but I just attacked the huge packet with a Stanley knife. Then crammed all the cardboard, plastic sheeting and polystyrene packing material into the car and off to the tip. Then I spent a really happy two hours moving clothes and toiletries around from the old furniture onto the new - very satisfying it was too. Now I am so very close to having the new home exactly as I want it. Just having new sets of doors made or three cupboards and that's it. Then I can stop worrying about leaving work.
Last night was the usual Chinese takeaway and wine. And very lovely it was too. Tonight will be sausages with chillie egg noodles. And then Dr Who too.
Hope everyone has a happy Saturday.0 -
Good morning everyone
Still ill, DH has tidied the kitchen and am about to put overnight wash out. DD is really down in the dumps at the moment and I can't even fix myself, let alone try and help her, so feel pretty useless.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Morning folks :hello: - dull and overcast here today, hopefully it might brighten up a bit later. At least it's not cold as well
.
Looks as though there's quite a few of us down with 'jippy-innards' at the moment. After braving the 'crispbreads with chicken paste' yesterday afternoon, I was feeling decidedly hollow and light-headed by bedtime
. Got to wondering about 'deplenished blood-sugar levels' when I had a sudden  about a bag of Jelly Babies stashed in my wardrobe ................ Must admit that they tasted like nectar  and helped to make my mouth feel better - whether or not they did me any good, remains to be seen :rotfl:. I got up around 5.15 this morning, still desperately feeling hollow and decided to try 'a very weak decaff coffee with small amount of milk'. As it was still 'down' at 7.30, and I was getting very close to 'scabby horse feelings', I made two slices of toast - using Danish Bread - with a smear of low-fat spread ............ utter bliss! I'll have a Boiled/Poached Egg with Crispbreads for lunch, Potato and Leek Soup - not a creamy one - for tonight and, hopefully, I'll be back to normal by tomorrow
.
Hester - thanks for starting today's thread. Have dgd's parents got any ideas on names yet - perhaps we can help them to choose ................
camelot - (((hugs))) to you over your meltdown - sometimes we need 'to tell it like it is' to get through to younger members of our families. I'm sure that they don't realise when they're being selfish - it's just that they 'don't always think'.
tru - hope your chooks recover from their eye problem. I'd better mention what you said about 'Flubenvet' to my son, I'm not sure he knows about 'worming' :undecided.to everybody not well.
Plans for today include:- Searching t'internet for some christmas-ideas for mini knitting/crochet projects. I got a few ideas from the current OS Christmas Thread, which I've copied into documents and printed off.
- Have a sort-out of my Household Records Filing Box - I'm sure there's lots of stuff that can be cleared out to make more space.
Be back in again later, to see how everybody is getting on - have a great day of OS-ing - luv Lilyplonk xx0
