Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • Somewhere on this site is the tale of someone who had a washing machine outflow connected to a "bog" standard (sorry - couldn't help myself there !) Saniflo - and was blaming Saniflo when the motor kept failing.

It's idiots like this who get Saniflos a bad name................as do people who keep repeating stories like this without the true facts.

Actually, you can get a saniflo for a kitchen. It depends on the model you have, too. I had a saniflo for years in a house I was renting before I married, and I never had problems with it. I was advised to run the hot water taps for a few minutes each day to clean the pipes and Saniflo, and add washing up liquid to clear any grease build up. I was careful with food, and made sure I scraped all food off plates etc before putting them in the sink, and it worked beautifully.

I'm not sure how they work with toilets though, and if there are a few large stools trapped in the saniflo I can see how it will block, especially if there's paper down there too.

You are quite correct - there is a kitchen model of Saniflo and you seem to have done all the right things to keep it in good order and it responded accordingly. However this model is NOT for use with a toilet - that is why it has no large "toilet" size inlet fitted.
This model has a special heat resistant motor/pump.

The standard Saniflo has two inputs: a large toilet sized one and a small waste pipe size for connection to a WHB. If you connect this to a washing machine/diswasher (up to 90 deg C) you will destroy the motor in next to no time.
I will leave it to your imagination to visualise the result of mixing solid human waste, toilet paper and hot soapy water together in a giant food blender !!

So many people grossly misuse their toilet, with a normal loo they often "get away" with it - a Saniflo will not stand that maltreatment. The instructions tell you that, they supply a warning label to stick on the loo seat lid. I even put a notice on the wall above the cistern. I never had the slightest problem with mine.
