Dispute from 2008 stopping us getting mortgage! advise needed!

hi there!

since the banks have been looking into peoples lives much deeper to see if you can have a mortgage myself and my partner have been refused a mortgage.

ive checked with equifax and the only 'bad thing' is from a barclays bank account from 2008! however i never closed the account till Nov 2009! it shows on my file as being unactive till Nov 2009 when it was closed down! so im being told it will be showing on there till next year! even when the actuall supposed 'late payments' were in 2008.

i have called barclays a couple of times to try and find out what these late payments are and they cannot find any record of my account! and i now have to send a letter to the date protection team!

i find it difficult that barclays cannot seem to find any record of this account yet still provide Equifax with the information and make my cerdit file look so bad.

any help or advice would be so appreciated as its stressing us out and i would like it sorted however im not very up to date on data protection etc.

please help!

Nicola

Contact the FOS and ask them to write to Barclays on you behalf.

Not true. They can do this.
We can help by contacting the business for you, and telling them about your complaint.

Try them again and insist until you get to speak to someone who will help.

  • You can also send a letter to a Barclays stating you believe the data to be inaccurate and state why.

If they can't back up what they report, they may remove it.

If you get nowhere, you can refer to FOS y filling out their form.

This could take months to sort if Barclsys don't play ball.

The FOS will not investigate until; t6he complainant has exhausted the bnak's own complaints procedure. It is nonsense to suggest otherwise.

I would visit a branch rather than speak to someone in their contact centre.

Alternatively you could follow their complaints procedure:

    http://www.barclays.co.uk/ContactUs/Howtocomplain/P1242558122337

Has the mortage lender actually told you that's the reason for the decline

What's your partners credit history like?

You won't get late payments on a bank account. Did you have an unauthorised overdraft ?
