Laptop won't communicate with printer - help please

I have a Dell laptop and I am trying to use a Lexus X9575 printer.
The laptop is a works one and running Windows 7.
A while back it started hanging up when I was printing. It would only get to 95% then stop. However I could scan documents and get them sent to my pc. Earlier this week I tried to scan again but my PC has disappeared from the list.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers - about 12 times. There is always an error with one driver. Plus I get the error 'lxdowpss Error loading communication.dll'.
I can print if I connect via a USB, but it's a pain to do that. I really need to fix the scan problem to - which isn't solved by connecting directly.
Is there anything I can do? (I can't do anything with the firewall as that's locked).
Thank you!
