House Renovation - Where to Damp Proof?

I am starting my first house renovation and i was told to make sure that the house has damp proof. What do they mean by this? Where shall i add damp proof and how to i accomplish this?

    You need to go away and research this.
    You don't have damp. At least I don't think you have

    But you have been fed the fear of damp, or maybe for the gain of others?
