So have we!! I nearly had heart failure when I went up there!!
Plasterer came last night - he is a man of all trades - does a lot of building work and joinery in addition to plastering. He is happy with the rest of the ceiling, and said that the damage should be limited to the cupboard as the rest of the ceiling has been redone recently. OH wants the cupboard out once HWT has gone, but he has advised not to unless we are prepared to replanted two walls and potentially the whole ceiling - instead suggested fitted wardrobes incorporating the cupboard.
It is all lathe and plaster ceiling - two bedrooms have been redone, one ceiling is failing and been papered over though. He said in time that ceiling needs to come down but that while it ain't broke, don't fix it!
So next job, how to work out where a velux window is leaking from!
Thank you for all your help! 😄

First of .......DON'T Panic, that loft is no worse than my first.
You do have , as was suggested a Lath /plaster ceiling . Its been ther for over a hundred years and I don't think its going to drop huge amounts on your head. The c**p lying on the surface is fairly standard and nothing to worry about.
So you have a few small bits fall down inside of a cupboard??
Whats the rest of the visible ceiling looking like? If you stand on a chair , is there any low patches, can you physically push the ceiling up??
Ps the photo's are great.
OP, WB has given you the correct advice, as he and I said earlier, calm down (dear).
Seriously it's a minor issue, and even better is confined the a very small area over the AC.
It's no problem that most of the lathes have "gone" along with the plaster. I think you need to consider overboarding the whole ceiling proved it can be established that the raters are sound, again, don't panic.:)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
