Capital One Cashback card - "excellent" credit rating?

I'd quite like to apply for a Capital One cashback card (I'll be starting a new job soon, and I'd like a second cashback card to use solely for work expenses, keeping my Egg Money for personal spending).

Martin's article suggests that the Capital One card requires a minimum income of £10,000 and to be over 21 years old. I satisfy both of those requirements, however, Cap One's site says that you need an "excellent credit rating" which they define as:
  • Have a credit card with a limit of at least £5000 (I have two CCs, with limits totalling £4250)
  • Have had a credit card for at least 5 years (I've had one 4 years)
  • Have never made late payments to existing providers (satisfy that one)
  • Have CC balances less than £10,000 (satisfy that one)
  • Don't have any previous credit defaults (satisfy that one)
Does anyone know how strict Capital One are with these criteria, i.e. is it worth me applying or will I just be rejected or given a worse (non-cashback) card? I only want it for the cashback...

Also why does this conflict with Martin's article? If Capital One require you to have had a card for at least 5 years you'd need to be 23 years old at least...

Please look at the other threads regarding the Capital One Cashback card

The bottom line is even if you fully satisfy all the criteria, they can still turn you down, and their is still a reasonable chance they will

I have been through this same problem mate, and yes, even though they have a specified list on their site and you 100% meet all criteria on there they can still reject you and not give you a proper reason.

Please see my thread SAY NO TO COMPUTER SAYS NO It is about things just like this

and dont worry you can always "check your Credit record files" if anything goes wrong!!!! LMAO
