Malta recommendations

I am considering a cheapish holiday for me, girlfriend and 1 yo baby to Malta (March next year).
Flights come in at £311 for us with BA from Gatwick.
Can anyone recommend a resort and hotel please? I am probably leaning towards St Pauls / Bugibba for the resort but but am open to suggestions.
We would probably want a hotel with Half Board (or maybe self catering) preferably close ish to the resort's amenities, which is clean and tidy and generally acceptable.
Cheapest accommodation seems to be from about £150 for 10 nights (from tripadvisor, ebookers etc.), reckon £300 should give something acceptable.
Have you been to Malta? Can you offer me any advice?
Thanks

We stayed at the Victoria hotel in Silema in Dec 2008 for a wedding. It backs on to the Palace hotel which is 5*, the two hotels share a pool and gym etc. it's a short walk to the sea, and bus stop. Not sure whether it's be ideal for children, but I think I'd consider it while our daughter is small. Have a wonderful time, I think Malta is an excellent choice temperature, budget and general ease- wise.0

The amenities in Buggiba are about on par with those in the back streets of Blackpool; horrible place, try Sliema..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0
