Help - Person using my address

A person who I do not know keeps using my address details to obtain car insurance. Is there anyway I can stop this from happening? I have already logged the details via action fraud and have a crime ref number. I also inform the companies as soon we receive a letter from them but this is always when they are threatening to cancel cover as the person has returned certain details.
Any help is greatly apperciated

  • All you can really do is to keep replying to the letters received and make sure that you inform the insurers that the person concerned doesn't live at the address they have on record.
Also tell them about the Action fraud report and give them the reference number.
  • Actual cover and not just quotes?

I presume you have the vehicle reg etc? I woould just contact the companies and cancel the policy.
The person taking out the quote wont know and may get stopped for no insurance.

Is it always the same person's name? Do you know that person?

Lateral thought ... is it possible that this person actually does live at the same address as you, but in a different postcode? (E.g. you live at AB12 3DE and he lives at BA12 3DE. If the letters include the town/city name then this probably scuppers this train of thought).

This may have an effect but if the returned letters get passed from department to department, it could take months.

IMO, it would be far better to write to the insurance company concerned, addressing it to their fraud department stating exactly what is happening and asking them to remove the incorrect address details from their database.
  • Phone and make a claim then ask for a callback and give them the details. You don't know what else this person has done in using your address.
