My brother is losing his job and has worked for the same company for approx 20 months at a salary of around £21,000. He was self employed before that but had a break of about 8 months where he lived abroad
Will he have enough contributions for contributions based JSA as I can't find any info online.
Thanks

If he applies for JSA this year (2014) then they will be looking at the NI contributions in tax years 11/12 and 12/13
If he started in Feb 13 then he only has 2 months that will count towards this (in Jan 15 it will change to 12/13 and 13/14)
Will he qualify for income based JSA?0 -
i would have thought so , his company is going into liquidaton due to the phones for u collapse, but he is probably short for reduncy as well, he is hoping not to have to claim, but he wants to be prepared and hasnt a clue when it comes to benefits.
Not sure when he started his job, might have been dec 20120 -
If he does not have a working partner or savings over £16k he should be entitled to income based JSA which is the same amount
Even if he started Dec 12 he still will not have enough contributions as would need to have 11/12 also
hope he gets sorted out with something0 -
If he has savings under 16K he will qualify for JSA IB subject to an assessment of when he went abroad and what links he kept with the UK.
but if he has savings over 6K but under 16K his JSA IB
will be reduced
For JSA C (if he has savings over 6K or over 16K)
He would have to have earned as an employed person £5,100 or more between 5th April 2011 and 5th April 2012 that would be 3 maybe 4 months salary and from what you say it doesn't sound like he earned enough in those 3 or 4 months.
He also would have had to have earned £5,350 or more
between April 2012 and April 2013 << he qualifies this with no problem
If he makes a claim now in 2014 and finds he has not qualified, he should sign off and wait 13 weeks then reclaim JSA (C) in January or later
He will definately qualify for JSA (C) in 2015
because he earned £5,350 or more between April 2012 and April 2013
and he earned more than £5,450 in 13/140
