Moving home and moving Sky

Hi we are moving house in just over 2 weeks. We currently have Sky tv, broadband and phone (entertainment pack, extra box and standard broadband and phone) in my name and i am not locked in a contract with them so can cancel when i want.

So do i cancel and let my fiance take out a new account at the new address and get a good deal?

Where we live at the moment the broadband is really slow (currently getting 6.3mb download, 778kb upload speed) so we want to upgrade to fibre (36mb)

We are moving to a brand new house so i wont find out until tomorrow (thats when we sign for the house and get keys) what phone lines etc have already been fitted, if any.

Or do i phone up to cancel tell them of the broadband problems and mention the move and see if they offer me a better deal? and maybe move me for free (i can live in hope haha)

Or stop with them totally and go with any other providers except virgin as this is not available at the new address.

I am open to all advice

Cheers,

Craig

You still need to give them a month's notice of cancellation. Looks like you are going to be paying for a service at your former abode for at least two weeks if you don't take advantage of Sky's Home Move service.

You've left it awfully late to arrange everything; Sky is unlikely to be able to install at your new property with no interruption of service...
  • Yeah i know ive left it late but we dont sign for and get keys for the house until tomorrow and i didnt want to jinx the move (im probably being paranoid haha) and i dont mind if it goes over by a week or two.

I dont mind a slight interuption and if we have a new service fitted then Sky can fit it within 2 weeks according to there website

Also we are currently paying around £80 a month and with the deal we have at the minute with the better fibre broadband it will be £59 a month for the first 12 months with a £60 fee to have phone lines dish fitted plus £100 voucher for tesco or m+s so thought that would be the better option
  • Thanks for the response by the way :)

When I moved Sky did not charge for a home move and dealt with it very efficiently.

You may well get the TV service installed within 2 weeks, but I doubt if you'll get OR to put a new line in (if required) in that period-it's usually 3-4 weeks depending on exchange workload.
The 2 installs are entirely separate, one done by Sky, the other by OR.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
