Hi
Our current boiler (a WB Highflow 400) which was in the house when we bought is coming to the end of its life.
We have had quotes from 2 independents, both in the Leamington Spa area. 1 quoted for a WB 34CDi and the other for an Intergas 36/30.
Both came in at around the £3k mark (see below). Can anybody tell me if the Intergas boiler is comparable to the WB? Is the Intergas any good? Are the quotes what people might expect?
We have a 4 bed detached house with 1 bath and a separate shower. I think we have been spoilt by having the highflow so we know a new one will not be as higher specced.
Mercia Gas have quoted us £3126 for the WB 34CDi, with a mechanical timer and Honeywell CMT927 wireless thermostat. Vertical flue + extensions. New 28mm gas run from the meter to the boiler. Condensate pipework , including pump, terminating to our gutter with Condensesure and condensesafe units installed. 15mm scalemaster and Spirotech magnetic filter. Earth bonding will be upgraded. They are also going to install 3 TRVs on radiators that currently don't have them.
They will flush the system with sentinel x400 and x100. All scrap removed and will take 2 men 1.5 days.
Sureway Heating have quoted us £3142 for the Intergas 36/30, with a Honeywell CMT927 wireless thermostat. Vertical flue. New gas run from the meter to the boiler. Condensate pipework, including pump, connected to the soil stack in the loft. A scale reducer and magnetic filter will be fitted.
They will flush the system. All scrap removed. They say they will reuse the current pump. Not sure which one they mean.
Any thoughts on the quotes please? Also, has anyone used Mercia or Sureway? Can you comment on their work?
Many thanks
Paul

intergas over WB every timeI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Thanks Southcoast. Can I ask why Intergas? We have a WB in the house at the moment and this is the first time (I know of) that is has really played up. Getting our monies worth out of BG homecare though which has put a smile on my face. Will be cancelling at our next renewal.
Also, do those quotes seem reasonable to you? They are very close.0 -
Worcester or Intergas, I would go Worcester ONLY because I have had 2 Worcester boilers no problems .
BUT I'm sure Intergas is good if southcoastrgi has mentioned .There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0 -
Might be worth a £1 trial month's sub to 'Which' (online) as they've just reviewed boilers... Just rememebr to cancel or you'll cop a tenner a month DD; (altho' having read one batch - also for boilers- I fear that 'Which' is strangely addictive) But having said that it may not help as altho' WB and Vaillant get best ratings for reliability, Intergas, the other one doesn't seem to merit a mention0

Not true moneymate, i have been back regularly checking for any posts on my threads and reading others peoples. If I have something constructive to say I would post, I wouldn't just 'lurk' :-) However being a newbie and not much of an expert at much, apart from basic finance, I haven't thought I can add anything to the various conversations.
Thanks Alex, I did think about subscribing to Which myself, but I couldn't find any mention of Intergas at-all so I decided it wasn't worth it. There are plenty of other reviews around the internet on WB, Vaillant et all so I have been combing through those.
We have finally settled on a WB 38CDi. We decided to go for the extra over the 34CDi purely on the basis that in the next few years we are planning to put an en-suite in the house and the extra power over the 34CDi might be worth it. The installers have quoted an extra £150 for the boiler and extra pipework so we have decided to go with the 38CDi.
Many thanks for those who posted, your advice/thoughts are much appreciated.0 -
Good luck. We have a 34CDI and it's been brilliant for the last 2 years. We are shortly putting in a loft conversion with en suite and believe it still to be sufficient to power the shower0

thanks suisidevw. If you don't mind me asking, did your gas consumption go down after you had the new boiler put in. We have a Highflow (from previous owner) which is way over the top for the size of house and we are hoping that the gas use will go down quite a bit.0
